THE IDEA

Spatial reasoning tasks are found in critical paths of the logistics workflow, for example:

  • What is the cube or dimensions of an object?
  • What is the shape of the object, can it be stacked or nested?
  • What is inverse of the shape of an object like a container, i.e. how much volume is occupied or available in the container?

By combining modern computer vision algorithms, cost effective 3D+2D sensors, and the vast Android mobile platform supply chain, we create a smartphone form factor with the perception skill to automate the answers to these questions that pop up for the many millions of items stored and shipped every day.

OUR APPROACH

A perception technology requires a careful system design balancing many factors, such as the mobile platform characteristics, sensor properties, system thermal and mechanical stability, and not the least of which is the computer vision software stack which creates the perception and spatial reasoning from the 3D and 2D sensor streams.

QBOID’s approach is to start with a carefully selected and tightly coupled sensor package, then integrate this module to the appropriate mobile platform providing reliable data quality while in use in industrial environments. We invest much effort in an ongoing calibration/characterization process so that our software understands what the sensors performance envelope is, and create most of our unique IP in the software stack to create reliable and usable quality of perception for logistics automation purposes.

MEET THE TEAM

Our founding team has been working together in the 3D sensing field and computer vision field for close to ten years, in consumer and logistics applications.
We have built and/or worked with a variety of types of 3D and 2D sensors, and developed many different system approaches in computer vision and machine learning to provide automation of many human basic perception tasks in dimensioning, identification and inspection.
